Optional social and cultural activities on weekday afternoons

Excursions are to other nearby destinations such as Avila, Segovia, Madrid, Toledo, Zamora, across the border into Portugal or natural sites such as Lago de Sanabria or the Sierra de Francia.

Spanish Host Family

Host family accommodations are above all, a way for international students to practice their Spanish and immerse themselves completely in Spanish culture. Living with a host family means not only having a comfortable bed to sleep in and home cooked meals, it also means connecting with people from a background and life that is very different from your own. Host families offer a support and guidance for you as you adjust to your new surroundings, and can make your stay more enjoyable. They are there to help you with any problems or challenges that you have while in Spain, and they want for you to have a wonderful time while in their country.

Estudiafuera´s language schools typically provide host family accommodations with host families where you can choose to have full or partial board. Full board means three meals per day and partial board usually means breakfast and lunch or dinner. In some cases there is the option to only take breakfast in the host family. Students may also choose between accommodations in a single room, or they may share a double room with another international student. Host families will also do laundry and will provide bed linens and towels to students.

Student Residence

Student residences are quite different from on campus university dormitories. The student residences inSpain typically house both Spanish and international students who are attending any number of different schools and universities in the general area. The residences by and large have on site cafeterias, and are open for all three meals. In the majority of scenarios, the residences, if not luxurious, provide clean, adequate, and comfortable surroundings. The residences will either have a laundry service or they have coin operated machines where students can do their own laundry. Common areas including study rooms, and TV rooms, and recreation rooms are the norm. Sheets are provided, but students should bring their own towels and other linens.

Shared Student Apartment

Shared student apartments are great for students who wish to have independence. The apartments are typically shared with between three and five housemates. They are fully furnished with all of the necessities for comfortableliving. Kitchens will have all of the necessary items for preparing food including pots, pans, utensils, stoneware,
flatware, etc. Appliances will include a refrigerator, stove, microwave, and washing machine. A common livingarea will have a television, comfortable chairs, and a dining area. Students may choose to have a single room, or to share a double room. The bedrooms will have single beds, a desk and lamp for studying and an armoire orcloset for storing clothing. Students will need to bring sheets and bed linens unless informed otherwise.

The Spanish lessons included in this Teen Spanish course are a combination of time in the classroom and learning excercises outside of the classroom setting, always led by a teacher. It is specially designed to stimulate and encourage young students to really begin to use the language they are learning.

The classroom lessons give the students all of the basic vocabulary and grammar tools that they may need to communicate in the complementary practical activities, and in their daily life with their host families.

Practical Activities: The practical activity portion of this course is designed to reinforce the grammar and vocabulary being learned by taking
the students and placing them in everyday situations outside of the classroom. Students develop and improve reading, writing
and especially oral skills. Included are visits to local stores, supermarkets, historical buildings, parks and other parts of the
city. Students prepare for the practical activities beforehand incorporating the vocabulary and phrases they will need for the next day’s outing. The professor leads the practical activities and the students may work in pairs. The activities are completed with a class report and group discussion.

The Spanish immersion experience is completed with a full afternoon social and cultural calendar and Saturday excursions. Students in this program are required to stay in Host Family accommodation.
